Homework Details
As a fifth grader, you are responsible for keeping track of your homework and bring it to class every day. Here is a description of the work you’ll have each week. If you have questions, please talk to me right away so that I can help you before you get behind in your assignments.
Daily Reading – Every day you need to take home a book in your book bag so that you have something to read for 30 minutes each weeknight (Monday through Friday). It would be wise to choose AR books to help you meet your goal. You may keep the book at home until you’ve finished it and if you have your own books or library books you may read them too. After you’ve read each night, write the title of the book and pages you read (ex. 56-62) at the bottom of your planner and have an adult initial under this. *If you don’t want to read on Friday, you can read on Saturday or Sunday as long as you read for 30 minutes sometime over the weekend.
Vocabulary - You will have vocabulary words to learn and add to your Vocabulary Notebook once a week. This notebook is a wonderful resource when you review for tests.
Math - Every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday you will do a page or two in your math workbook. I will always assign work that we’ve practiced in class. If you don’t understand a page, see me the next day so I can explain it and you can do it with your other homework the following day.
Parents,
Your child should spend about 30 focused minutes each day on homework in addition to 30 minutes of reading. Please let me know if it is taking longer than this for your child and we will meet to come up with a new plan. Homework should be a review, not an agonizing struggle.
